WHO ?

I am Joryss Basaid, 22 years old, and my story is one of survival, rebirth, and a call to existence.
I grew up in several foster homes, where stability was a luxury I never knew. During those years, I didn’t seek anything other than survival, just getting through the storm without ever knowing if I’d see the light at the end.

At 16, everything changed. An extraordinary man entered my life. He adopted me and gave me a chance—a chance to rebuild my future, to believe in myself. My father, despite his awkwardness, taught me that love is shown through actions, not perfection. It’s not about the words, but the presence, the consistency. Through him, I learned that even a painful past doesn’t define our future.

Today, I am proud to have two dads and a cat. Yes, a cat, because that’s important. My family, though far from perfect, taught me that love doesn’t need to be flawless to be powerful. Together, we are a family united by love, and that support has allowed me to dream, to dare, to believe in myself.

But there’s another place that truly transformed me. A place where I went to give everything, to push my limits, and prove that I am capable of far more than what others believed possible. That place is New York.
New York taught me to never stop, to constantly push my boundaries, to fight against those who doubted me and said I couldn’t make it. Every challenge I faced in this city made me stronger. Every failure taught me to rise again, more determined. This city is not just a place to dream—it’s a place where you build yourself, where you face your own limits and surpass them.

Today, my creativity is the reflection of this journey. It’s my call to existence, my way of telling the world that even the deepest pain can give birth to something beautiful. Through my art, I want to show that you can overcome anything, reinvent yourself, and that, despite the voices telling you it’s impossible, you can always prove you are capable of so much more.

I am living proof that, even if life doesn’t always give us what we hope for, we have the power to reinvent ourselves. New York taught me to fight, to push my limits, and to believe that even when everything seems lost, anything is possible.
